Voice and video calling features are being added to WhatsApp Web
WhatsApp Web has been available since 2015, allowing users to access their chats directly from a browser. However, despite its popularity, the web version has long lacked one essential feature — voice and video calling. Until now, users had to rely on the mobile app or the desktop application to make calls. This limitation is finally being addressed.
As part of the WhatsApp Web beta program, voice and video calling features are now being introduced. The rollout is gradual and currently available to beta users only. At this stage, the feature supports one-to-one voice and video calls. Additionally, users will be able to share their screens during calls, making the platform more suitable for work meetings, collaboration, and remote communication.
Although group calling is not yet available on the web version, it is expected to arrive in a later update with support for up to 32 participants. Call links and scheduled calls are also planned to roll out progressively. Importantly, all calls made via WhatsApp Web are protected by automatic end-to-end encryption using the Signal protocol, ensuring a secure and private communication experience.
